Frank Schillo was born in Germany in 1971. After successfully completing an apprenticeship as a ceramist, he studied for four years at the Institute of Ceramic and Glass at Koblenz University of Applied Sciences, graduating in 1999 with a degree in Fine Art and Ceramics.
Schillo’s works can be found in a number of important American and European private collections and museums including the Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich, Grassi Museum, Leipzig, Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe, Hamburg, Museo Nacional de Ceramica, Valencia, and the International Ceramic Art Museum, Fuping, China.
He is the recipient of several prestigious awards.
Characteristic features of many of Frank’s sculptures are the horizontal and vertical segments which were originally inspired by the grooves that naturally form in a piece during the wheel-throwing process. These segments have now become an integral part of his hand built sculptural work. Schillo’s sculptures are distinguished by clear, form-defined segments, emphasizing movements and statics.
